Student Storytelling Opportunity
Appalachian GEAR UP students in Western North Carolina counties are participating in a series of Saturday Storytelling Sessions, a hands-on experience in story development and storytelling through the medium of film. Each Saturday Session allows students to write, record, edit, and produce a unique film project while also learning about career opportunities in the film industry.

Grant provides student enrichment
GEAR UP teachers from Corsicana, Mexia, Rice, and Kerens Middle Schools in Texas participated in professional development at a training called Ready, Set, Drone! at Corsicana Middle School Jan. 24-25. Promise Zone continues to help students, schools
Berea College GEAR UP was highlighted in an article celebrating GEAR UP programs in Kentucky Promise Zones. With the support of GEAR UP grants, they have been able to purchase technology and books at schools, take students on college trips, and work closely with families to make sure they have the information they need about colleges and financial aid. Graduation rates have gone up as a result, and staff look forward to continual improvement.
