Dear Colleagues:
It is with mixed emotions that I announce that Ranjit Sidhu, President & CEO of NCCEP, will be transitioning out of his role at the end of the year. The Board of Directors has recently accepted his resignation as he leaves to pursue his next role as Executive Director & CEO of ASCD. We are certainly happy for Ranjit but will miss his leadership to NCCEP and the GEAR UP movement.

White House signs H.R. 6157, funding GEAR UP at $360 million for Fiscal Year 2019.
Today, President Trump signed H.R. 6157 (the “Department of Defense and Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Appropriations Act, 2019 and Continuing Appropriations Act, 2019”") into law. As part of this appropriations, GEAR UP will receive $360 million for fiscal year (FY) 2019, an increase of $10 million over 2018.

House and Senate Complete FY 2018 Appropriations Package
After a long and difficult appropriations process—one that saw two brief federal government shutdowns—the House and Senate have passed a $1.3 trillion omnibus appropriation for FY 2018. While it was expected to be quickly signed by the President, the President just shared on Twitter that he is considering vetoing the bill. WKCTC holds first Tech Connect Teleconference for local students
West Kentucky Community and Technical College (WKCTC) recently partnered up with GEAR UP students in West Kentucky to host their first Tech Connect Teleconference. They reached over 450 students regionally, interested in information technology fields, to participate via media stations housed in middle schools, high schools, and technology centers in 10 different counties in western Kentucky. Laurel schools GEARed Up for new academic year
GEAR UP in Kentucky was highlighted at a local school district meeting for the work it is doing and the services it’s providing to Kentucky students. According to the article, GEAR UP is the largest and most effective program in their community and it provides ample support and resources to students from underserved communities. Laurel County School District Superintendent, Dr. Doug Bennett, shared the impact GEAR UP is having in their community.
