GEAR UP 4 LA's peer mentoring program empowers students to build college-going aspirations and enrollment while sharing college access information with peers. During Peer Mentor Summits this fall, 9th- and 10th-grade students learned about the four systems of higher education, match and fit, and high school graduation requirements, and explored their own stories through team building and dialogue circles.

Grand Island High’s poetry workshops culminate in competition

Poet Joaquín Zihuatanejo recently conducted a poetry workshop for Grand Island Public Schools GEAR UP, cumulating into a competition and poetry slam. “To be able to put your thoughts on the page and then share it with someone else, it does take a lot of bravery and courage,” said Allison Bailey. High schoolers test knowledge, learn about neurology, at second UTRGV Brain Bee

High school students from across the Rio Grande Valley in Texas participated in the UTRGV School of Medicine's Brain Bee competition, a question-and-answer contest for high school students about neuroscience. One student shared, “I saw that they’re giving back to the world in a way that I want to.
