Some of you may recall Maria Ibarra, a GEAR UP alum from Region One (TX) GEAR UP. Maria was part of the 2013-2014 GEAR UP Alumni Leadership Academy and has remained connected with the larger GEAR UP community. In a recent news article, Maria shares the impact that GEAR UP had in helping her pursue her dreams, including her current pursuit: a degree in public policy from Carnegie Mellon in Pennsylvania.  

Waipahu alum creates STEM summer camp for students to build muscle-powered robots

The Expect More Excellence Tour: Rural communities around the state get focused on college thanks to Arizona GEAR UP

Arizona GEAR UP was highlighted for their work with students across the state to help them become college and career ready. In this article, you can check out stories and successes at the high schools and watch a video of leadership training that students took part in over the summer.
 
 

Area teachers attend GEAR UP-sponsored workshop

Math and science teachers that are part of the Eastern Oklahoma State College GEAR UP program recently attended a training – Ignite Belief Texas Instruments – to help prepare them for the upcoming school year. They received classroom tools last year, along with a few more this year, and coaching at their schools from Texas Instruments specialists.
 
 

Rising seventh and eighth students “Ignite Belief” at Eastern Oklahoma State College’s GEAR UP summer leadership camps

The GEAR UP program at Eastern Oklahoma State College (EOSC) hosted eight different three-day camps with GEAR UP students this summer. These camps included community service participation, ropes courses, goal planning, presenting, and other activities aimed at developing leadership skills. 

UNC System launches first-of-its-kind virtual reality app tours of campuses

GEAR UP North Carolina worked with the University of North Carolina System and others to create virtual reality tours of college campuses in North Carolina. North Carolina will be the first state to have virtual reality tours of every college campus and GEAR UP schools will receive cardboard virtual reality headsets and earbuds to take “tours.”
 
 

GEAR UP at Cal State San Bernardino prepares students for life after high school

California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) GEAR UP has had a busy summer exploring college and career options. Nearly 100 GEAR UP students had an opportunity to complete a two-week tour of all of the California State University campuses, then joined more peers for a four-week GEAR UP University.
