Students deliver food & thanks to Jacksonville firefighters

In Jacksonville, Florida, GEAR UP students delivered boxes of food to firefighters as community service. These students are part of I’m A Star Foundation’s Summer Leadership Academy and delivered the food in an effort to show thanks to firefighters. 

Marshall hosts GEAR UP U as WV juniors get college experience

West Virginia GEAR UP hosted its annual GEAR UP U summer camp at Marshall University last week. Students participated in team-building activities, hones leadership skills, engaged in near-peer mentoring, and learned more about how to navigate the path to college.

Kennesaw State University, part of the GEAR UP Georgia grant, hosted a “signing day” for GEAR UP students to show them what it feels like to sign up for college. Students heard from a motivational speaker and had the chance to meet college students from Greek fraternity and sorority organization. They left feeling inspired to pursue their dreams! 

‘Impressive feat:’ Students in Milwaukee Public Schools earn record $86M in scholarships

In Milwaukee Public Schools, GEAR UP students are breaking records. Last year’s GEAR UP seniors received a record $64 million in scholarship offers, but the class of 2018 topped that record with $86,247,467 in scholarship offers. 

GEAR UP Georgia kicks off Muscogee County Summer Leadership Academy

The GEAR UP Georgia Summer Leadership Academy kicked off earlier this month, over 800 GEAR UP Georgia students entering their freshman year of high school went to Columbus State University for the academy. They learned more about enhancing their communication skills and working together more effectively.

Fridley High School, part of Hennepin Technical College GEAR UP, held its 60^th Scholastic Achievement and Recognition Banquet recently. Four GEAR UP students werehighlighted at the Banquet for their acceptance to attend the Youth Leadership Summit at the NCCEP/GEAR UP Annual Conference this year!   

Louisiana GEAR UP to offer enrichment programs this summer

Louisiana GEAR UP is getting ready for summer! They are partnering with local universities to offer students from sixteen middle schools summer learning programs that focus on academic enrichment, skills development, and college preparation.
