TISD middle school camp focuses on robotics

Eighth-graders in Southwest Independent School District passed their standardized math exams at a rate 8 percentage points below the state average last year — but something different was going on at the district’s Scobee Middle School.

There, for the first time, all eighth-graders had the opportunity to take Algebra I a year earlier than normal. The vast majority accepted the challenge, and 90 percent passed the state’s standardized Algebra I exam on the first try.
