I am so pleased to turn over today's Quad blog to Margaret Pulte, a GEAR UP all-star, with CFES Brilliant Pathways GEAR UP.
Margaret, take it away!
A few weeks ago, sometime in early March, I helped with the 6th and 7th grade Science Fair. The Science Fair is a big deal at my school, and as a result, students were full of excitement and stress about this year’s virtual presentations. As the night wound down, students walked to the cafeteria to eat pizza…
NCCEP's Career & College Clubs program and curriculum recently went through its third ACT impact study and we are so pleased to report the positive results.
NCCEP's Career & College Clubs has gone through three ACT impact studies, with the most recent study published in the fall of 2021. We wanted to examine the efficacy of the program and curriculum…basically does it really do what we say it does? And it does! I am so excited to share these positive results with the GEAR UP community.
This latest report, Examining the Efficacy of Career & College Clubs, was done in collaboration with ACT and Alliance GEAR UP, and it explored the…
We had the opportunity to host four wonderful interns this summer at NCCEP! We wanted to share a spotlight on each of our summer interns: Kate, Izzy, Paige, and Jean and congratulate them on the start of a new school year!
Kate
Kate is a rising college senior at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she is double majoring in Economics and Global Studies and minoring in Statistics and Analytics. This past summer, she has been based in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. She has been working with Chrissy Tillery, Vice President of Research and Evaluation, Thomas Cech, Associate Director of Research and Evaluation, and Emily Jeffries, Associate Director of Government Relations. Her work has mostly been…
Do you hear what I hear? Learn how the voices of the #GEARUPworks community are elevated through national committees, driving the success of our movement.
Since it's inception in 1999, NCCEP has remained steadfast in its dedication to support the success and growth of GEAR UP. A critical element of this work has been harnessing the voice of GEAR UP to address critical topics, grow bold ideas, and focus on what students need to succeed.
One way that voice - your voice - is captured is through the work of national committees. Those who serve on these committees help make sure that tools, trainings, and resources address what GEAR UP needs.
- As…
The 2021 NCCEP/GEAR UP Annual Conference has an Exhibit Hall with new (and returning) exhibitors, attention-grabbing content, and fun features to help you engage and learn about the programs and services offered to GEAR UP.
I don’t know about y’all, but I am so excited for the 2021 NCCEP/GEAR UP Annual Conference. Not just because we have amazing sessions for you to gain ideas, strategies, and tools to better serve your GEAR UP students. And not just because of our one-of-a-kind social engagement sessions like Zumba Party and Meet the GEAR UP Pets. But also, because…drumroll please…NCCEP’s Career & College Clubs (CCC) has an exhibitor booth!
Now, I know what you are thinking. “Pappas, why are you so excited…
Today I am SO excited to hand over my Quad Blog to the GEAR UP Alumni Association! As a GEAR UP alum myself, supporting a strong network of GEAR UP alumni has always been one of my top priorities, even before I joined NCCEP. So, when the GEAR UP Alumni Association reached out to me last summer to share what they had been working on, I jumped on the opportunity to support. Today they will be sharing more about their organization and premiering an advocacy video project we have been working on for the past few months.
Hi GEAR UP Community!
I am Casey Weld and we are the GEAR UP Alumni Association (GUAA)! Founded in Los Angeles from alumni, staff, and partners of GEAR UP 4 LA (Lois BramwellJanicia Centeno-Castillo), we aim to be what NCCEP is to our grants, to all of our alumni. Surely, all of you have thought at one point, “what happens to our students after the life of the grant?” While efforts to organize and mobilize alumni in the past have been relatively successful, we decided to change up the…

Whether or not you have a Quad login, here are some ways to stay up-to-day with the community!
In 2017, Alex Chough, April Bell, and I, along with the rest of the NCCEP team, spent hours (and hours ... and hours) researching options to create an online community for GEAR UP programs across the country. Once we found this platform, we spent hours (and hours ... and hours) in collaboration with the team to build something that had areas to discuss common challenges and share resources. The Quad continues to grow and evolve with the community, including an updated "News" page for everyone…

The U.S. Department of Education’s Multi-Grant GEAR UP Evaluations and Implications
By Chrissy Tillery
Last week the U.S. Department of Education released their findings from the multi-grant text messaging study they conducted. What are its implications for us as a community?
As you may know, the U.S. Department of Education (ED) is often commissioned to conduct studies on federal programs, including GEAR UP. Of recent, the fiscal year 2014 state grants were provided supplemental funding to conduct an evaluation of postsecondary outcomes for GEAR UP students, including enrollment, persistence, and completion. Additionally, the state grantees have been working with ED on a scholarship study so that we can best understand the implementation of the scholarship…
