Like you, with the approach of Thanksgiving I have been reflecting on what has been one of the most challenging years of my personal and professional life. Despite the hurt I’ve felt or witnessed throughout the year, I recognize that I have so much to be grateful for.

In light of the most serious challenge that our GEAR UP community has ever faced, I am grateful for you.  

Over the past year, few have worked harder to innovate and adapt than our GEAR UP community. I am simply floored by your determination to help students, families, and your colleagues overcome so much. While in some respects, these may be the worst of times, you’ve shown us the best of who you are.

Your work is exceptionally hard and goes unrecognized far too often. But we see you: what you’ve sacrificed, what you’ve achieved, and what you’re striving towards.

I am grateful that you’ve pushed me, our association, and our entire community to realize our higher purpose. You’ve been a tremendous source of inspiration. A well of strength to draw from when I feel weak. While each of us may be isolated, it is so gratifying to know that we’re never truly alone as we fight to make equity in education a reality.

Thank you for leading us through this journey, which has helped me grow in so many unexpected ways.
