This week’s Tools and Research You Can Use features a study recently completed by New York GEAR UP (NYGEARUP) entitled, Graduates of GEAR UP in Post-Secondary Education Give High Marks to their College Preparation Experience. In 2022, New York State administered a follow-up survey to a sample of NYGEAR UP students who had graduated from high school the previous year. The results of the survey show those enrolled in postsecondary education (PSE) were significantly more likely than those not in PSE to report that NYGEAR UP services were helpful. Specifically, assistance with financial aid, taking classes at a local college while still in high school, and internship services were some of the interventions that students reported made a difference. Even though most survey respondents felt that additional improvements to GEAR UP services were not necessary, some of the surveyed students recommended including more exposure to career preparation. You can read more about the survey findings here. For further information or questions about the survey, contact Dr. Sara Silver at ssilver@measinc.com
