I’ve heard the phrase the “new normal” so often lately that it’s not exactly new anymore. To be honest, I’m not even sure what “normal” is supposed to mean. There have been so many changes in our lives over the past year. But what I do know is that these past twelve months have required us to adapt and be willing to change. And that is tough. But change forces us to challenge ourselves and to learn new skills, which will then open new opportunities and encourage growth. (I mean, if it wasn’t for these last twelve months, my mother-in-law wouldn’t have a clue how to Zoom.)
NCCEP accepted the challenge to change, adapt, and in the end, improve.
The college and career landscape continues to change, and we must change with it. So, we are excited to announce that NCCEP’s Career & College Clubs program has received some enhancements!
First, there is NEW CURRICULUM. We have added four activities to the curriculum. Two for the middle grades and two for high school students. We recognized the need to address the challenges students face around cultural diversity. These interactive activities help students recognize their cultural differences and how these differences, and even biases, affect their lives. I watched my own children as they watched the news over the past year unfold and saw the importance of having that discussion with students.
Second, we are now using an online platform to house the curriculum, which provides for EASIER ACCESS for our Coordinators and Counselors implementing CCC. This platform allows for user-friendly navigation and dissemination of the grade-level curricula, activities, and curriculum maps. In fact, for those who have taken advantage of NCCEP’s Study Lab, this will look familiar because we are using the same platform. Transforming the 400+ page PDF document of CCC curriculum took countless hours of review and upload, but now, the access clubs will have to the curriculum has made implementation of CCC so much easier.
I’ve been with CCC since the beginning and have watched it grow into a nation-wide program. Thank you for being with us every step of the way and for inspiring us to continuously improve what we provide for you, our community.
NCCEP’s Career & College Clubs is a peer-to-peer, student-led program for grades 7 through 12, that provides students with the knowledge, tools, and support they need to plan for and assume ownership of their learning and future.
