Food for Thought -- Gearing up students for college success
College students from Lenoir-Rhyne University recently visited GEAR UP students at Draughn High School in North Carolina. They shared insights about college life and culture, Greek life, tuition costs, scholarships, and a variety of other topics during a “Lunch and Learn” GEAR UP event. These informational meetings known as “Lunch and Learn” occur once a month and are coordinated by Appalachian GEAR UP. “Part of GEAR UP is not only college access – college awareness, college culture – but it’s also college success and building a student who can be successful during their first year of college” said Jessica Stockham, GEAR UP coordinator at Draughn and Patton High Schools.
